Hawaii

byEarl E. Gibson

Hawaii is a beautiful place. I have only ever been to Oahu. I was there twice while in the Air Force for a total of around 7 months. I was lucky enough to go back to Oahu in 2019. The state encompasses nearly the entire Hawaiian archipelago, 137 islands spread over 1,500 miles. The eight main islands are, in order from northwest to southeast: Niʻihau, Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, Kahoʻolawe, Maui, and the largest, Hawaiʻi, which the state is named after.

Ohau is a military island. There are multiple bases for pretty much each branch of the US military setup there. Honolulu is the capital of Hawaii. Population is 986,429.

When I was there last, they had SPAM Fest 2019. 20 restaurants served up Spam in every way possible from Spam lau lau and tacos to Spam mochi waffles and even Kimo's Hula Pie with candied Spam. Musicians were playing music up and down Kalakaua Avenue.

The photo to the right was taken from 36 floors up at the resort I was staying in. I took a few photos from this balcony. Some during the day and some at night. I love night shots. Maybe I will rotate between them here once in a while.
